Smartphones have become central to the modern way of life. From our pictures to banking details and more, they carry a lot of sensitive information. As such, it becomes really important to do a complete factory reset and wipe all data off of them before you pass your phone off to someone. But that's not the only reason why you'd want to factory reset your Samsung device.

A factory reset can be very useful if you're having trouble with your phone and need to get your phone back to a fresh state. In such cases, factory reset is a last-ditch attempt at troubleshooting mobile phones.

What to do before resetting your phone?

Factory resetting your phone will restore your phone to its original factory settings, erasing all your data in the process. Resetting the phone also unlinks your phone from signed-in accounts. It also deletes all your apps and data and puts them back in the same state as when you first purchased them. As such, it’s important to back up the information before you do a factory reset.

If you are looking to back-up data, there are a few ways to go about it. One of them is to back up the data onto a memory card. So, if you use a microSD card on your Galaxy device, you have the option of not erasing its content during the factory reset and just simply transferring it onto the card. Alternatively, this data can be backed up to the cloud.

Also, if you don't wish to remove the data completely you do not have to do a full factory data reset as there is an option to reset all settings, network settings, or accessibility settings of your device, but leaving the data in place on the device.

Once again, a factory reset removes all data from the device permanently and ensures you're not able to recover data that is deleted, so double-check even your backups before you start the factory reset.

Another important thing to note is that factory reset of a phone is a battery-consuming process. So before you initiate the process, make sure your phone has at least a 50 per cent battery.
